YLDC consists of 42 members with 31 elected members, 5 appointed members and 6 ex-officio members (Rural Committee Chairmen in the district). YLDC plays a linking role between the government and the community through its six committees, namely the District Facilities Management Committee, Cultural, Recreation, Community Service and Housing Committee, Environmental Improvement Committee, Finance Committee, Town Planning and Development Committee and Traffic and Transport Committee, which reflect public concerns to the authorities and advise the government on a wide range of matters related to the district.

With the new term commencing on 1 January 2012, YLDC will continue to work closely with government departments and make the best endeavor to ensure adequate provision of public services and facilities to better achieve the objective of strengthening district administration.
